This sculpture metaphorically shows the underground as a living being. The flesh-colored polymer clay is fused with copper wires—suggesting the electric cables found underground—and hair—a body part as well as a reference to dead bodies that are buried underground. The hair also makes reference to shower drains and hair washing down drains. I chose these materials because they have similar formal qualities and can be effectively blended with the pipe to emulate something growing out of it.
