The Unheard of World

44 cm x 38 cm x 25 cm - Plaster gauze, miniature speaker

For this sculpture, I hoped to build upon my previous work by referring to The Unheard of World, a French play set in the underworld, written by Fabrice Melquiot and translated by Michelle Haner. The recording is a reading of lines from the play which discuss the infiniteness of death and the possibility for beauty in the process of decay. The fusion of the plaster baby with the roots suggests the creation of a new object while also continuing the idea of the underground as a living system.
